A biography
In winter 2001 Jörn met US pro free skier Matt Reardon at winter ISPO in Munich, Germany. They decided to record 2 songs together for Matt's appearance as a skier in Thierry Donard's well-renowned action sports sequel Nuit de la Glisse.
2 songs became a dozen, and together with Andi Dick (dr), Anton Curths (b), Armin Köberl (git) they formed REARDON, releasing the album Free From Code in March 2003. End of 2003 Matthias Borst replaced Armin on guitar. REARDON played numerous shows in Switzerland, France, Germany, Austria and Italy.
End of 2004 it was time for Matt to head home to the States. Jörn continued his musical journey, writing and recording songs for Dr. Beat's Windsurfing Kamasutra and in 2005 he self-released a solo project called FRIENDS OF THE G-STRING - Personal Pleasures. "Writing and recording - mostly - is so much fun." Jörn says. "My biggest advantage is the fact, that I don't have to fulfil anybody's requirements. That's why this album is called Personal Pleasures - I really did this just for myself. I played all the instruments myself, did the recording and mixing and because I couldn't find anybody to sing it, I had to grab the microphone too. I just did 300 copies and when they we're sold - actually I think there are like 15 left or so - I had a bunch of new songs written and I started a follow-up album."
Summer 2007, the recordings still in the beginning, Jörn met Nils and Armin, two former band mates from ancient times. They met for a session and the chemistry was right from the very beginning. So the G-String thing transformed to a real band.
Only 2 years later Armin was struck by fate, pancreatic cancer hit out of the blue and Armin tragically died September 2009.
For a moment this seemed to be the end of Bent Not Broken and in deed it was tough to play or even hear the songs for a while. But music's also a healer and then came light at the end of the tunnel. Jörn re-united with Andi and Anton from Reardon and since February 2010 they're back on the stage and a new album is scheduled for 2010.
BENT NOT BROKEN
This one goes
To Whom It May Concern
The times they are 'a' changing. And they're faster than ever. It might be a sign of the times, it might be a sign of age, but time has a different quality these days.
Forming a rock band comes with a backpack full of clichés. If you decide to follow the rules that media and society dictates you're bound to fail in many ways, quite often before you were even ready to take off.
But - and this might be the advantage of not being 15 anymore - we don't give a sh%& about the rules, about the standards. When time becomes an issue and "live life to its fullest" becomes more than a hollow myspace phrase it's about the possibility to do what you love most. No matter what others might think. We love it.
